How to fill foundation gap?

I am trying to rodent-proof the exterior of my house and have this little beauty. Snide comments about Olde Worlde Craftsmanshippe are not appreciated.
It's between a poured cement foundation and some structural wood. The gap is about an inch wide and maybe four inches high. What would you use to fill it? Thanks a lot!

ps: The gap is vertical. Thisimage is turned 90 degrees cc.

I'd fill the crack with spray foam. Once it cures you can paint it to match the foundation.

Fill the gaps with foam backer rod, then caulk with white Vulkem. Tool it until it looks presentable. A little paint thinner on your finger may help.

Get some PVC (Azek is a good brand) and cut some pieces to fit as tightly as possible....PVC will never rot. Then you can caulk the joints. You don't say what type of rodents but mice can get through a 1/4" hole....it's amazing to watch them flatten their bodies. Rodents are pretty good at chewing through soft stuff.

Thanks all. Likely rats. The rat guy said they eat through foam. I was thinking of some kind of patching cement, although there is paint here and it probably wouldn't bond. Is that so? You're right about them flattening out. Wish I could help with a sledge hammer.

You can cover the crack with hardware cloth. Cut it to shape then fill the void behind with foam or caulk and nail or staple the hardware cloth in place. After the caulk/foam has cured you can paint it so it's less noticeable.

What did the rat guy recommend? Also, what have you got going on that is attracting rats? You could fold up some wire lathe and stuff it in and force some stucco cement in and around it.

Thanks for the advice. Is it possible to make the stucco patch smooth?

How smooth or rough stucco is depends a lot on how it is finished. Smooth stucco will still be a little gritty but will appear smooth.
