Advise needed on condition of concrete foundation wall

I would be interested to have your opinion on the condition of this wall (see picture). It's affecting about 4 feet on the outside of the mostly above ground wall. The rest of the wall is visually fine. It looks like it was an older wall. I am not sure if this is serious or if I could just leave it like that. The basement is finished so I can't see the inside. It's a old house (1920). Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks like the parge coating has come off.
Does the water fall from the roof there ?
Do you know what that wall is made of.... block, stone ??

Thank you. From my knowledge the wall was made of poured concrete. Yes the water could fall in as it's under a part of the roof that has no gutter. Definitely looks like some coating has come off but it's also bulging from the rest of the wall.

What happens if you peck at it with a hammer? does it come off in powdery pieces or solid chunks [if you hit hard enough]

It would not come off easily. It's quite strong. Not so powdery as well. Beside this part, the rest of the wall around looks fine.

It sounds like it's still sound. While it's probably ok as is, I'd stucco over it to make it look a little nicer and then paint it to match the rest.
