Converting crawlspace to basement

Converting crawlspace to basement
When my mother's house was built in 2002, it was an option for a full basement. She opted for the standard half basement, and half crawlspace. She is realizing that design isn't working for her. Is it possible to convert the crawlspace part into a basement, so it will be a full basement?
The crawlspace is about 900 square feet, and spans half of the house. There is a half wall made of cement, with wooden framing on the upper half that connects crawlspace to basement.

Probably, but it will be highly expensive since they will need to get a skid loader under there to dig out the crawl space... build temporarily support walls, the half of the house with the crawlspace will require underpinning, and there is no way for us to know how much of the existing wall between the two is currently load bearing.
This will likely cost 10x more than if she would have just opted to go with all basement in the first place.

This kind of thing is often more expensive than just finding a better fit for a house and moving.
