Stone veneer

I'm thinking about doing a little updating to a portion of the front of the house. I like the looks of some of the stone veneer products out there. The issue is that I want to cover a 5' X 20' area that is currently brick. - the kind of brick where the faces look "broken off" instead of a perfectly smooth surface.

Can I still put (screw) the veneer panels over an uneven surface without it looking half-a$$ed?

I would surmise that you could use a long straight edge and drag it across to surface to identify any trouble spots that may need attention. High spots can be chipped away with a cold chisel. you will want the panels to lay relatively flat or you will not see veneer, you will see panel breaks of the individual sheets.

Brickwork/chimney top: care and repair?

Here's some pictures of the bricks / top of my chimney. Any thoughts on what i should be doing and are these a problem? This is the only brickwork on my house. The moss? brush it off? The holes / cracks / crumbling in the mortar The cracks and moss on the concrete top of the chimney Anything else you see as red flags? The house was built 43 years ago and we've owned it for 20 years. In the last 20 years, we haven't done anything to the brick / mortar / chimney. Is there general care that should be done? I did spray Costco's Wet and Forget on the moss / bricks / mortar recently. At some point should I brush off the moss? Does this belong here or in the chimney forum : ) ??? Thanks! Best time of the year to drive a heavy load across asphalt driveway

I had my driveway topped late last spring, adding a 2 inch top over the old asphalt. In order to have my septic tank pumped the truck will have to back up the driveway and onto my yard. The yard is 1-2 inches lower than the driveway. I can ask them to send an empty truck rather then one half full (10,000 gallons when full). Even so I am concerned about the truck cracking the edge of the drive. Would I be better to wait until summer when the asphalt is warm from the sun, or do it in the winter when the ground is frozen?Read More
