Concrete balcony resurfacing

I need to resurface around 500sq ft of concrete balcony. I haven't heard good things about the paint based polyurethane products:

Epoxy based is too expensive to get a contractor in.

I'm worried both of the above especially the paint based resurfacer will get damaged. We have harsh winters here and there's often snow and ice on the balcony. Shoveling it means scraping along the surface sometimes.

I thought a concrete resurfacer might do the job but these are prone to cracking too. Any recommendations for a DIY job? I should add that I want a textured finish.

 

I wouldn't use a paint product either. There are topping products that are marked for less than 3/4" which is what you would need. I would recommend a bonding agent if you use such a product. Does the surface have a pitch where the water will roll off the edge? Any surface where the water collects kills the chances of a lasting job unless there is a drain.

 

It has a pitch to evacuate water.
I've only seen concrete resurfacer, but it seems to be a kind of unnatural colour when dry, almost like paint.

 

Ace has a topping product. It's really only Portland & sand, iirc.

 

What's the difference between topping and resurfacer? Assume topping needs a bonding agent. It's just the look of concrete with rocks in is kind of nice. Can't get that look with a resurfacer.

 

Is there a penetrating concrete sealer that is coloured? Not acrylic, not epoxy, not polyurethane.

 

I'm not saying that it needs a bonding agent. That's just my preference.
