Laying down some paver questions

I'm taking out some dead grass in the backyard and plan on putting some pavers instead. The question is what depth do I need for gravel and sand? No cars will be going over it just regular foot traffic if even. The pavers I'm going to lay is 12" x 12" x 1-1/2". Do you guys recommend any type of gravel I should use for the bedding and how thick should it be? Also for the sand. Thanks for anyone that can help. I'm ready to dig but just need help on how much to dig, btw I'm flushing the new pavers with the existing concrete patio. Thanks in advance!

Is this a paver patio or just some pavers here and there, like a walkway?

The latter can simply be the pavers dropped into place over the grass, as they'll sink through compaction and decay of the grass. If the latter, you generally need a 4-6" compacted base plus an inch of bedding sand, which does get thinned a little with the installation of the pavers.

You dont show your location but up here in MI I have always installed 10" of compacted crushed limestone to provide sufficient drainage to eliminate winter heaving!
