Brick Mortar Repair

Hey all. Winter in the Midwest is brutal this year, and so I've been repairing the mortar on my interior brick mortar to block outside drafts. The mortar repair formula I used is the right texture and functionally does the job. However, I clearly got the color wrong. The adhesive I used came out much darker than the original mortar color (see attachment). Does anyone have any tips on how I can get that light grey/off-white color match? It doesn't need to be a perfect match, but I'd like to make my repairs a little less obvious if possible.

It's difficult to get a perfect match using real mortar .... and the color can be adjusted with it. Was that the only selection they had in mortar caulk? how long ago did you apply it? it might get a little lighter as it cures.

I would never be using that product for that unless it was temporary.

I would be grinding out joints as needed then tuck point using a Spec mix. Colored Mortar - SpecMixSpecMix

@marksr This is the only acrylic, textured mortar repair I saw at Home Depot beyond buying a whole bag. I applied it about a week ago, and it hasn't changed in color since I applied it.

@XSleeper It looks like there's a SpecMix dealer near me, so I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if I can get a color match. Thanks!
