Question Soil Separated from Concrete Slab

My home was built in Dallas (with infamous clay-rich soil) in 2010, and I bought it in 2013. We have been relatively disciplined about running the irrigation drip lines on either side of the house. However, the less shady side of the foundation has a good half inch of soil separation along it. (We have not landscaped this part and there is currently no grass or ground cover.) Questions:
  1. Does this mean that I need to run irrigation lines longer/more frequently? (It's currently daily for an hour at 6AM.)
  2. Should I get a shovel and attempt to fill in that gap by pushing the soil against foundation? I realize this sounds like a fairly meager/superficial thing to do.
