We are planning to refinish our basement. Our first step is replacing all drainwork under our cement floor. We are considering tearing out the entire floor (3 inches concrete and 8 inches dirt) down to the highest point on the plumbing. This would give us almost an extra one foot of headroom. Any forseen problems?? We realize we will need to becareful around supports. What about where the floor/wall foundation meet? I would like to do most of the grunt work, but hire a consultant for permits & protecting the support beams.
All advice is appreciated!

Lots of issues here. One thing is keep in mind, the deeper you go, the closer to the water table you'll get.

Also, keep in mind, make sure the "walls" of the foundation go deep enough too!

If water table isn't a concern, than it is mostly about structure and will. The will is easy!
