Slope regrade question

Stupid question...
I regraded for water runoff. Then i installed gravel. The subsurface is sloped, obviously the rocks are not perfect slope....

Its the subsurface that matters correct?

No, they both matter. It also depends on what kind of stone you put down. The easiest way to tell is to put water down or look when it rains.

I put 3/4 clean gravel down.. thats the thing, you dont see water running off in either direction... it just flows into the gravel.... and I hope along the slope of the subsurface.

3/4" clean lets water move pretty easily through it. The water is probably following the grade of the soil below or soaking in.
