Rebuild concrete steps and section of walkway

Hi there,
i want to resurface my concrete steps but as I'm looking at them it seems that the transition to the walkway will be a problem as the slab is cracked and uneven. Any problem with simply cutting off the old slab at the step and pouring a new section? After it hardens I could build up the bottom of the steps that have chipped away before applying the resurfacer. Any advice or commentary is welcome!

You can pour a new section, yes, but keep in mind that anytime you resurface, all cracks and expansion joints in the old surface will eventually telegraph through the new surface. You usually want to cut or strike those joints in the new surface to hopefully make a clean joint.

I added an image. I'm thinking of just cutting off the existing slab at the steps and pouring new, and then building up and resurfacing just the steps
