Reset fireplace ash door -advice?

(4) attached pics show fireplace ash door need to reset.
Fireplace not used -eventually will convert to gas.
Plan:
1. Powerwash all concrete/ash door surfaces, to ensure good bond.
2. Apply one of the following to back of ash door, set in place, then add cement/mortar around perimeter (ie: top edge) as req'd.
-Quickrete Quick-Setting Cement
-Quikrete Acrylic Mortar Repair (10oz tubes)

Appreciate feedback on plan/products considered, or better ideas/products.

THANKS for your time!

I used Sakrete – Type S High Strength Mortar Mix....... when I redid mine. I also used a spray water bottle to make sure all the old masonry was wetted. The mortar needs to be mixed fairly dry so that it stays in place.

When I set the door.... I used a piece of wood from the ground to the door on an angle as a wedge to hold the door from sliding down.

PJmax, thanks for your reply recommending Sakrete Type S High Strength Mortar Mix, and your other tips.

If worked 4U, then should work for me-
Local big box has 10lb bags for cheap.

Plan to use the rock currently keeping door in place to hold it while the mortar sets!

THX
