extending cement slab

There used to be a drain running beneath the brick just prior to the entrance. Thought I would remove approx. 2' to 3' of bricks then use 2"x6" to frame for a slab and marry it to the existing slap then install bricks on top of both slabs?

I am not sure how I should marry the new to existing slabs, should I add some type of material to act as an expansion joint between the new and existing slap or can I use what I believe is referred to as a 'hand groove' tool?

Oh, the holes around the screen door are due to my using the reverse thread trim screws, they work great unless one needs to replace trim and/or siding, in my case to replace the screen door. .

Comments/Suggestions appreciated!!

Are your bricks mortared together or is that sand in the joints?

There is no way your going to get the new and old slab to "join" so yes, pour the new slab and use a concrete groove tool on the one side and your good!
