Grinding rock

I have a stone bench that has some bumps & protrusions that are a bit uncomfortable. I want to grind them down (maybe a cubic inch or so). Would an angle grinder be the best tool for that? Which kind of attachment would be best on it? (The bench is far from AC power, so I will have to use a cordless tool or run it off a car w/ an inverter attached, if that would provide enough power.)

I would suggest an angle grinder with diamond blade powered by a gasoline-powered generator.

An angle grinder with a diamond cup wheel or diamond disk will make fast work of it. You could use an inverter but it might need to be a pretty good-sized one depending on the watts of the grinder.
