Cover existing patio with paver base and pavers?
Hi, all. This summer, I’m looking to overhaul a patio by replacing 2’x3’ cement slabs (2” thick) with bluestone.
One goal I have for this project is to direct water away from the house by elevating a 6’x9’ section and adding a slight slope to the patio. I’m going to raise this by about 4”.
Can you think of any drawbacks to leaving the existing cement slabs intact and covering them with a layer of paver base and placing the bluestone on top?
If I removed the slabs, I’d have to make up the 2” difference lost from the slabs, and I’d have 9 more pain-in-the-butt slabs to dispose of.

Its common to install pavers over a cement slab, the issues typ is drainage since the water can not go down, it's going to go along the plane of he cement!.
Plus need to confirm that the original material is solid, your mew patio will only be as good as the foundation it sits on!
