Exclamation Tile over latex a problem?

Finally getting around to doing the backsplash in our newly remodeled kitchen. Before I caught them, someone painted over the green board on one wall with latex, one coat. Should I be worried about the paint? Would cleaning with TSP be enough?
Thanks for your time!

It could be a problem, depending on the type of thinset you plan to use. It would be a good idea to sand and prime the painted walls if the paint is glossy at all. And Versabond was recommended to me by Czizzi a long time ago, and it's probably the best thinset to use, as it sticks well to most everything. I would NOT suggest you use any premixed thinsets.

Didnt know anyone still used green board.

If it's flat paint there shouldn't be any issues, if it's a latex enamel I'd at least scuff sand it with 80 grit. My backsplash is applied over paint as was most of the houses I worked on. I don't know any tile men that use premixed thinset.
