Fire Pit on slate

Can you build a fire pit on slate? The house we bought has a 6x6 area of slate in the back yard. My guess is it was used to display a statue of some kind since there are cinder blocks around it. But it's the only real spot for a fire pit. Can I turn this into a fire pit (build the fire pit on top of the slate)? Or do I need to remove the slate?

I'd cover the bottom with fire brick.

Stubborn moss on walkway

I have stubborn moss on the walk way to my front steps and on my travertine patio that surrounds my pool. For the walkway, I tried using a hard brush with a bleach solution that is taking a long way to slowly destroy the moss. Is there a faster way? I don't have much on the travertine patio so I can do that by hand but how do I handle that long term? Can I brush fine sand between the tiles? Or will that scratch the patio?

Prepping porch paint

I have a previously painted (unsure how many times) concrete porch (about 10' x 6') that I am looking to paint. Unless I get a better recommendation, I'm planning to use Behr elastomeric paint. Behr recommends "removing all loose paint", and I'm wondering how you would go about doing this. It really isn't cracking that badly, just here and there. What is the best route -- Strip it? Sand it? Take it off with a pressure washer? Please advise on proper preparation as I know it is the most important step. Thanks.
