Question on small access build-outs for concrete slab

We have looked at a couple TN homes on concrete slabs and notice two small (1 x 1 x 1) build-outs on one side of the house that appear to be plumbing access points.
Can someone help me with what exactly these are an how they help with plumbing?

Sidewalk resurface

I have about 25' of sidewalk on the side of my house that either the builder or previous owner(most likely previous owner) poured the concrete and used the stamp the wrong way and I don't like the look of it. What concrete should I use to cover this up? I have power-washed all the moss off it yesterday. See Pic.

Need help on repairing a section of a basement concrete floor

I had to replace some badly deteriorated sewer pipes under my basement concrete floor. I hardly ever do any concrete work and I need help and advice on how to re concrete back the section of my floor. Should I use the dirt that I removed as backfill or would it be best to use gravel and or sand? I have bunch of gravel and sand from a previous project that I would love to get rid of. how much backfill would be necessary? Any advice would be appreciated.
