North Jersey - Driveway Sealing Fall or wait till Spring?

The driveway is in decent shape but wife wants long term protection. I had a few contractors take a look at it and said I will need a new driveway as a repave will raise asphalt nearly level with the garage door opening. So, it needs to be teared out to be lowered. I guess over 25 years, a few repaves here and there raised the driveway up? You'd think it would have been built with that in mind.

Anyhow, winter can be rough but isn't it better to apply in fall for winter protection?

If tearing out soon why spend any money on long term protection" of applying sealer?

Driveway is in good shape. Trying to avoid the bigger job by taking care of it now.

yes apply sealant. It’s been at least 3 years

In my opinion..... the main reason to seal coat a driveway is to reduce the amount of water getting in and freezing. I'd seal coat now.

My North Jersey brother! My driveway is 18X75' and I got quotes of $500-650 so I'll move forward now.

Is 1 coat a typical application?
