Gaps in brick stairs

Hello all.
I have brick steps with what I think are called limestone treads. As you can see, there are gaps that have formed between the bricks. Can someone advise me on how to fill in this cracks as a temporary measure? I will work on the permanent fix later.

There are also gaps between the tread and the back riser which is made of brick; as you can see in the second pic.

Ty!

The stairs are in very poor condition. Some of the "gaps" you mentioned are giant cracks.

Personally, I would not bother with a repair. It won't do much to extend it's life and cosmetically any fresh mortar is going to really stand out as different.

But, if you want to do something you can re-point the joints where the mortar is deeply recessed and fill in the gaps you mentioned. Easiest would be to get a bag of mortar mix that has the sand included so all you have to do is add water. Type N would work.

@Pilot Dane Ty very much for your reply. I was wondering, what do you think about me using this product instead?

I am not doubting your expertise. I am just wondering if this would also do the same job. Ty
