Adding a stain to brick

Does anyone know of a good do-it-yourself brick staining method? I have a 70-yr-old home and have recently replaced the top 25 courses of bricks on my chimney. The brick we found was the closest match we could find to the original orange brick. But the new courses are just slightly lighter than the rest of the chimney.

I have also thought about masking off the mortar, and then using a brown or black spray paint to carefully speckle the brick. The color of the clay between the two kinds of bricks are really close. But the texture of the old brick makes it look darker than the new brick. I was thinking that some carefully applied dark speckles might actually give it the right look.

All advice is welcome. Thanks!

Hello
You have the right idea Faux paint the brick would be a great way to make a match in color....don't stop and start with a hard line blend it over the old and the new,,,,, Good Luck
