'84 300CD Mercedes

I am looking at buying a 1984 300CD Mercedes Coup. The vehicle has 150,000 miles, weathered paint, and used interior. I have read nothing but praise for the old Mercedes diesils, but would like some first hand knowledge if it is out their.

Well the engine in that unit is pretty bulletproof, however there are some other things to consider.

A 20 year old car with only 150K miles seems a bit suspicious to me. Most people I know that bought Ds did so because they put on lots of miles, but this owner only put on 7500/year, about 1/2 the national average.

While the engine is pretty stout, every component on that car, differential, transmission, steering box, window regulators and every bearing and seal is 20 YEARS OLD, and has 150K miles on it. Actually the age of any rubber seal is more important than the miles on the bearings.

It's probably not bad for $1200-$1600, any more than that I'd pass.
