Vette

Wife's dad left her his 1967 L-88 vette after he passed last month. Is this thing worth anything? Its in good condition with just under 8k miles. She wants to just donate it to a local charity that accepts cars.

Yikes. Probably worth a pretty good piece of change regardless of the condition. Might want to contact local car clubs, especially Corvette specific ones; should be one somewhere in your area.

Suggestion

As an alternate suggestion, donate the car to a charitable museum. In that way, many can see and appreciate that type of historical vehicle. A portion of the money collected, to enter the museum, goes to a charity or many types of charities.

The 1967 L-88 Corvette did not have the most powerful 427 engine, it was #2 (@430hp)
L-71 Corvette had the 435hp 427 engine
The last listing I saw @ auction for an L-71 was (sold at) $163,100
There were over 3700 L-71s built

I don't have a current going rate for the much rarer L-88
But I do have a production number:
20
That's it
Only 20 were made
They don't get much rarer
Technically it should be worth much more than the L-71
But sometimes in this market desirabilty wins out over rarity

If I find a current going rate on the L-88s I'll post it

Whew, one of 20 made...one of how mant left...?

No, no joke, sorry
It's difficult to get a value on them because they are so rare, no-one want to part with theirs

Well, it's been a few days and most everybody has gotten back to me
The consensus is that it is too rare to assign a value to it
So far I've found only one and it is not for sale ("too rare")

A real 1967 L88 is worth a fortune. Even in rough condition, it would probably get 200 - 300K.

By the way, the 430HP rating of the L88 engine was a lie. That engine really produced around 560HP.

One of your moderators doesn't believe me that I sold the vette! Majakdradon is his name. Asked him if he wants to see the bill of sale. Do I wish I had not sold it YES but its too late now.

I would try to buy the car back from the neighbor. Say you've thought about it and the car has a lot of sentimental value. Offer him $4,000..
