Buying advice needed (Smaller 4-WD)

I currently drive a 2000 Chevy Blazer

I will be looking at getting something newer or even perhaps new. I do not need anything this big anymore, but because of where I live, I do need 4WD or AWD.

I also need something that will be durable as I put a lot of miles on each year...

and of course cost of ownership is vital (as opposed to just plain purchase price)

What would you recommend I look at ??

Thanks

-Beth

I'd do a google search for the criteria mentioned and see what comes up. Obviously, small suvs will be on the list. Some minivans have awd these days and all Subaru models come with awd. A lot is going to depend on whether you still want an suv, or something different.

IMO I would go back with a Blazer or Tahoe. Jeep even has the Hemi in the Cherokee now that is pretty nice since it will drop off 4 cyl during light load saving some fuel.

If you don't need to tow, and don't need a truck bed, look into Subarus. However all wheel drive is different than a 4x4. Subarus are GREAT!

I like the Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverados for 4X4 trucks.

The Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4 are good choices for a small SUV. I know people who own both and they are very reliable vehicles. If you want more of a "car" like ride then I'd check out an AWD Subaru.

FYI the RAV4 is Consumer Reports pick for small suv.

Measure it with a micrometer; cut it with an ax.

Yes - I have always liked the Rav.....

BTW - Did Subaru ever correct their notoriousness for rusting problems, particularly in the exhaust system....

Yes by all means buy a Cherokee; your local towing service will send you a Christmas card.
