Cool gazebo finishing

I built a gazebo. The 8 outer posts outside are 4x6 douglas fir. I am only planning to water seal the posts, leaving natural wood look.

My question is, when I finished the project, there are cracks on most of the posts. Is my best option to use wood puddy to seal the cracks up or is there any other option to make the finish look nicer?

Thanks,
John

Cracking in the surface of the wood is not unusual for construction grade lumber. If you are going to use a water sealing product, just make sure to get the product fully into all the cracks and crannies. Trying to fill these cracks will make them more noticeable due to the differences in aging of the wood and the filler. These water seal products will need to be renew annually.

Douglas Fir does much better outdoors when painted.
