building shelves

I have two rectangular cubby holes in sun room. Imagine the gap is 25" deep, 64" wide and standard 8' ceiling height.

What I want to build is shelving with some decorative molding to border the edges. Have been thinking of 18" deep shelves. Wood and painted white.

Where can I get some decorative ideas for building a shelf?

What can I do about the 64" width which may sag any conventional wood at this length, in the middle?
middle support?
build shelves as box frame?

How difficult it is to put cabinets in the bottom?

Basically I am looking for design ideas to build and fill these two gaps. The gaps are seperated by the same 64" wide wall behind which the fire place exists and thus it sticks out in the middle in the sun room.

The paint is semi-gloss white, same as the trim/molding.

Any suggestions on books or websites with pictures/ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks
Sanm

Here is the place to calculate the answer to your shelf sag questions.

http://www.woodbin.com/calcs/sagulator.htm

You can just build conventional cabinets and slip them into position and trim out.

Here is some info on kitchens.

http://directory.google.com/Top/Home...ment/Kitchens/

You can do a Google search on woodworking, cabinets and such and get thousands of responses.

Hope this helps.

This book has an excellent chapter on built-in bookshelves/cases with decorative trim.
