building book shelf in knee wall.

I am in the process of building knee walls for my expandable. I would like to include some book shelfs, drawers inside the kneewalls. Anyone know of any good websites or books that will help me get started?

For what you're looking to do, the chances of you finding a website of how-to for doing shelving in knee walls, is probably very small. Since it's such a custom thing, you're probably going to have to use your imagination on this one.

Isn't the knee wall only 3.5" deep, the size of the studs?

You're picturing exactly what I'm picturing (there are several in my house) so I went "Googling".

Turns out that "kneewalls" are simply walls that fall into the 32"-36" height category - give or take. We typically take them to be "separators" between one room, or area, and another as mine are.

They can also be constructed in finished attic spaces, for example, by building a wall where the distance from the joists to the floor is about three feet high. The "dead" space behind the wall can be used for storage or, a person could build shelves, small cabinets, etc. into the wall to make use of the space behind.

I think you're on the money about customizing whatever space mt has available, though. With some skill and imagination, it sounds like it might be a fun project to tackle.
