Smile Attaching legs to a countertop

I'm putting a countertop along a wall and need advice on the legs. Counter will be attached to wall but will have no cabinet beneath so we are making 3 legs for support. We have the base plates needed to attach to underside of the counter and have the double ended screws needed to attach the legs to the base plate but are unsure of how to put the screws in the leg without damaging the threads at the top that screw into the base plate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Some double ended screws have a section in the middle where they can be held with a pair of pliers. You could run two nuts onto the end and tighen one against the other and use this to grasp with a wrench. You could drill a hole into a scrap of wood and run the screw partway into it and use it as a handle.

Hope this helps.
