crown molding

I am installing crown molding in my living room. I am having trouble with an outside wall. Within 6 to 12 inches of the wall, the ceiling raises 3/16 to 1/2 inch. This is causing problems mating the inside corners. The only solution I see is to apply a layer of drywall cement to the ceiling to level with the rest of the ceiling. This seems like a lot of work to solve this problem. Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this?

Yes, seems like a lot of work to me too. Since the distance you have to rise is fairly long, I'd probably cope the moldings together instead of mitering. I would also probably install the molding that has the rise to it first and then cope the other into it. If your not familier with the technique, this link is about the best I've seen outside of a magazine. The process applies to any moldings.

Hope this helps
