Quick question on stair riser placement.

Do the risers go on top or behind the tread? I want to be certain and not blindly follow what the existing stair has.

Behind the tread. That way the width of the tread will be the same, and if you are using standard bull nose treads and 1x risers on a 7:11 rise/run, the tread will stick out just a little (3/4") over the riser. Also, visually, the line between the tread and riser won't be seen when you ascend the steps.
