Lightly refinish solid Oak cabinets?

I have a comndo that I am about to sell with solid oak cabinents in good shape. I have a few that have lost their sheen and a couple with some paint spots aoroubd edges.

Can I lighttly sand them with 200 grit sandpaper and then put on new clear coat? I mainly want them to shine ahgain and get the latex paint off of them too.

Will this work?

Welcome to the forums

That might work, alot depends on whether or not the varnish/poly is compatible with the existing finish.

Paint specs/smears seldom sand off without affecting the surrounding stain. You should first try a product like 'oops' or 'goof off' and see if it will remove the paint. Carefull scraping with a knife is often succesfull in removing paint spots.

Depending on what shape your finish is in, waxing may bring back the shine. WARNING - if you use wax and then decide you need to poly the wax must be removed first!!
