Can you tell me what Im describing?

I have no idea what forum to put this in. Since I am doing a woodworking project, I figured Id try here.
I am making a box as a toy chest for my son. I want it to havea rugged look so I was going to wrap the outside in a material that I dont know the name of.

Its metal and is usually seen on the steps (runners?) of big trucks and it is the naterial used for the big toolboxes (that mount to trucks)

Its a stamped metal of some kind. Im assuming the design is supposed to give strength or grip to the metal. Its usually chrome and the design is sort of punched out (convex) lines. They are all over, at 90 degrees from each other.

Do you know what I mean? Do you know what this is?

I think you want diamond plate, you may have to get it in aluminum to keep the weight down.

I just did a search - thats it. Thanks.

But, man, its expensive! I was hoping it would be relatively cheap - this is only for a kids toy chest.

Any other ideas fro what would give me a tough, rugged look?

A painted border of a woman sitting at a desk with pictures of memos, tax forms, shopping lists, and highchairs covered in masticated carrots spinning around her head?

Maybe that's too rugged for a little kid.

I think the metal might have edges that are too sharp, anyhow.

How about painting it bright red to look like a tool chest?

What about using a diamond plate sticker? I've seen some that sell in sheets.

What would you think of the 'campaign chest' style, with corner protectors, metal straping, drop-down handles, etc?
