preserving/caring for knotty pine paneling

We just finished our basement with knotty pine paneling T&G. Should we put some kind of finish on it so it doesn't fade or turn yellow? I really like the natural look. Any suggestions?
thank you. We live in CT, so we experience all four seasons, if that makes a difference.

Welcome to the forums!

You probably should apply a few coats of water based poly [any sheen] sand lightly between coats.

Wood will change colors as it ages [even inside] so the poly should help it to keep it it's current color. Oil base poly/varnish will deepen the colors and will yellow/amber with age! I know that pine T&G painted with oil base poly/varnish will darken more where it is exposed to light than it will where it is covered with a picture. I don't know if the same is true for waterbased poly [which I seldom use] Being in a basement may help to prevent this - don't know for sure
