Knotty Pine Panel

I am planning on installing knotty pine panel 5/8 by 6" over existing drywall. Can I install directly on the drywall. Some users suggest firing first, is this absolute necessary? Thanks in advance.

install away, the panels will not need furring strips at all.

life begins when the kids leave home and the dog dies.

Ifyou install the boards vertically - you need furring strips installed horizontally. If the boards are installed horizontally - you don't need furring strips.

If you prefinish the wood prior to installation, it will save you time and effort although the final coat is best applied after installation.
