Base Trim - Need to shave thickness

So I have some 1/2" thick basic base trim and I need it 3/8". Will a hand held planer do the trick? Any other suggestions? I can't find 3/8" x 3" base trim anywhere.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

I can't imagine trying to cut down the thickness of an entire piece of base with a hand held planer. That should be done [if at all] with a regular thickness planer.

Why does it need to be only 3/8"? is that the thickness of the door casing?

Well, the original trim for our integrated bookcase was 3/8" but the wife ultimately didn't like it....this was after I started building the bookcase. So the gap to make the trim flush to my fireplace is 3/8".
