cutting off table legs

Hi, I need to cut the legs off of a coffee table because I want to convert it to a game table. I can only get so close with the hand held circular saw I have. The jigsaw is too weak for the job as the wood is very hard. It was an old well built table and cutting the legs off is the only way to remove them. Can that black guide be taken off the bottom of the saw so I can get right up to the bottom of the table? I only need to remove a couple of inches but of course that is way too much to sand off.

Buy a Japanese trim handsaw. They are very sharp and will allow you to saw right up to the end of the shaft of the leg. Have you tried to remove the stub rather than cutting it off?

No, it's really sort of in there in such a way that it is locked into grooves and I believe I would really damage the table. So nothing quicker? I should just use a handsaw?

My granddad built houses with a handsaw, so just take your time. The Japanese saw will work so much better.
