I'm refinishing a mission style daybed. Parts of it are loose and need to be reglued.
One particular section is joined by dowels that have been glued. I can't get the two pieces apart or back together. Would it help to drizzle some solvent of some sort around the dowels to loosen the old glue?

Depending on the type of glue used during manufacturing, some type of solvent may help loosen those stubborn parts. I would start with plain old rubbing alcohol and apply it with an eyedropper or syringe. And get one of the spreading clamps made by Quick Grip. These should help to get the joints apart. Rough up the parts with a course sandpaper before regluing them making sure to get all the loose stuff out of the holes before reassembling. George in the Furniture Refinishing forum may have other/ better ideas on a solvent for the glue.

Cool

Heated white vinegar is an excellent solvent for many older glues; apply with an eye dorpper or syringe as suggested and give it a little time to 'soak'.
