hard protective finished for kitchen cabinets

Hi guys. I bought a set of ready to assemble kitchen cabinets. However, I'm really not quite satisfied with the wood quality. It seems to scratch and dent quite easily. So, is there some finish that I can apply to the door and frame to make them harder and more wear resistant? And hopefully it wouldn't take too much time. Thanks a lot.

What are the cabinets made of? do you know what type of finish is currently on them?

I'm not sure about the exact wood type of the cabinet. But the finish is an espresso stain. I'm hoping to be able to just apply a layer of hard lacquer on top.

Lacquer isn't compatible with all finishes. You'd probably be better off with an oil base poly. Whatever finish you decide to use - test it on a hidden area to make sure it's compatible with the current finish.

You might contact the cabinet manufacture and see what they recommend for recoating.
