Question Rotting countertop

I have a double sink 3 inches from a wall. The tenants keep splashing water up there so much it has rotted the 3" counter area from the sink to the wall. We replaced it after much looking but now it has rotted again and now it has rotted the cabinet wall underneath it. Can we just continue to hope to find the right piece of cabinety or should we replace a square or rectangle around the whole sink and put a new splash guard on the wall? This is a devil to repair. It is almost like we have to get an entire new counter L. What is the best way?

Water can't get through a silicone seal. Did you seal the sink back down when you replaced the countertop? You must seal the sink rim as well as any break in the backsplash all around. What type countertop do you have? Roll back laminate? Two piece laminate? Stone? Tile?

Hi Chandler. We have laminate/rollback. Yes, we did seal it well with caulking. The first time it did not dry-too much spash. The second time we taped it for a week and had to go over it several times because it cracked-but it did dry. However, somehow with constant splash the water got through eventually. So now we had to remove it. It was replaced with the same type of material. This week our (fix-it person) put in another piece-this time marble looking. Have not had time to check but it maybe the same material. If it is marble or something like it maybe it will work. He caulked it well and told me to put some floor sealer on it when it dried and around the sink. Right now it is covered and drying.

Although it may be a terminology glitch, but you said "caulk". What type caulk did you use? Anything latex will melt with water, since it is water based. You should have used a silicone product. Once it dries, it is dry, but pliable, keeping the seal.
What did your fixit person replace? The entire countertop?. You can't piece in new laminate on a roll back.
