Need help reinforcing bed frame.

Greetings fellow DIYers,

I recently adopted a new wood/steel bed frame but it seems the threaded inserts are now coming loose at the posts. I'm afraid the bed may collapse one day which I hear isn't a pleasant event when you are on it.

The bed post appears to be made of a hardwood while the frame is made of steel. My plan was to drill a whole through the post where the inserts were and just run a bolt through it and secure it with a locking nut. There are two holes per post and they vary between 100mm and 80mm since the post curves.

Would this be sufficient or should I just replace the threaded inserts?

If you don't mind the look of the bolts, do it. It would be far stronger than those inserts and you don't have to worry about having the same problem down the road.

If the ends of the metal frame angle inwards, you probably won't even notice the bolts. Use carriage bolts and they will even be innocuous from the outside. Cut the bolts off flush to the nuts so the mattress will sit inside the metal without obstruction.
