Paint or Stain kitchen cabinets - Trying to decide

Hi, I'm new to this site. I've been trying to research painting versus staining my kitchen cabinets. To be honest, I'm not even sure if or what kind the wood is on the cabinets. They are very light in color currently. I'm hoping I can take the staining route because I like the look of that over painting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I can attach a picture if that would help.
Thanks...

There are too many unknowns to give any advice. A picture would help. If you do stain what color are you considering? Are the cabinets made of real wood or some composite material? What painting experience do you have?

What type of finish is currently on the cabinets? Stain requires bare/raw wood so if you go that route you'll need to completely strip off any existing finish. There are tinted polys [like MInwax's PolyShades] that can darken up the existing stain a little but they can be tricky to apply. Painting normally consists of sanding/cleaning, a solvent based primer and 2 coats of your choice of enamel.

As already mentioned, stain requires raw wood. If you have that, I vote for stain. I prefer Zars over min wax.
