Hanging a coat hook bar

Hi -

We have this ikea storage cabinet in which my wife would like to hang this coat hook bar. I'm just not sure of the beat way to affix this coat hook bar to a laminated particle board. Seems like a wood screw would eventually pull out. I was think about a screw with a a nut and washer on the back side (maybe a sleeve on the inside to protect the wood from wear and tear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Shawn

A pic or two might be helpful. Another consideration would be to add a piece of wood to attach the bar too.

If you have access to the back of the cabinet I'd suggest T nuts.

Hi -

Here are some pictures. It is a side view with and without the proposed coat hook bar.

Thanks!

Is this going to hang on the cabinet back? Is so, how thick is the back?

No, it will hang on the side. The 2nd picture shows it. It is 3/4" thick. This is a free standing cabinet. The back side of the cabinet is just a thin covering piece of laminate.

Based on the picture I would definitely use T-nuts.

Based on the picture, 1 1/4" #8 screws will work just fine for this. Pre drill using a countersink drill bit. I don't know what the hooks look like or how they attach, but if you could hide the screws behind the hooks, it will look great.

I would follow drooplug's suggestion regarding pilot holes and screws but I'd also suggest you add a few beads of clear silicone across the back of the "coat bar" before you screw it on. (not so much that it squeezes out the edges... stay away from the edges when you caulk, cuz you don't want it to squish out.)
