Finish basement stairs
Hi Guys,
Need some advice on finishing my basement stairs. Right now the backs are open and I want to close them as part of my basement refinish. I have routed stingers with 30.5" x 9" treads. There is 6 inches between the bottom of one tread and the top of the next tread.
My problem is that if I want to close these, then I am not going to have any toe kick at all with the current configuration. I'm not sure what to do about this. Below are a few pictures of my steps. The 3rd picture shows the example that I won't have any toe kick. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best path forward for me?

If I understand the problem correctly, it sounds like you just need wider treads. A 2x12 tread cut down to 10 1/4" would extend farther back, putting the riser 1 1/4" farther back in relation to the step above it. Each step should have that 1 1/4" nosing in front of the riser.
