Trying to figure out molding angle
I have ripped up the carpet on the steps in my steps and stained the steps and painted the risers... Now it is time for me to install the trim on top of the stringers and I am trying to figure how to get the exact angle on the right stringer. Below are pictures of what I am trying to do. The piece of trim is cut on a 40degree angle to match to angle of the wall, it is beveled on a 45 so it can join the other piece that is wrapped around the wall but I cannot seem to figure out how to join the 2. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can't turn a perfect corner with that moulding the way you are trying to do it. The piece coming down the stairs would need a mitered transition on the end so that it would be level for a short distance before turning the corner to meet your other piece at a 45.
You can make a compound miter cut (with both miter and bevel) on the one coming down the stairs, and miter the other at a 45, but the moulding will not plane together perfectly. Might be a good place for a corner plinth block so that each side could butt into that instead.

This is not exact, but is similar to what you would need to do. Notice the little piece on the end where the piece coming down the stairs is bisected by the transition so that the moulding is level as it rounds the corner.
