Remove backsplash

I have a countertop in my kitchen I want to replace. It is not very big but the problem is it has no backsplash as the it was tiled right to the countertop.

Most of the countertops in stock at home depot or lowes have the backsplash built on. If I want something different it becomes a special order and then it is they have to come out, make a template, take the template back and wahlah 6 weeks later I will get my countertop.

If I find a countertop in stock that I like is there any way to remove the backsplash without damaging the countertop?

Thanks ahead for your help.

Got a picture so we can see what your seeing?
My first thought is why not just butt the new top against the tiles?

I suspect if you were to cut of the backsplash the countertop would then be too narrow to cover the cabinet. If you leave the factory backsplash, do like Joe suggested and caulk where it meets the tile.

Thanks I thought about that but wasn't sure. That will be easiest for sure.
