Exclamation Picture Window Molding

We're going to remove two double-hung sistered windows and replace them with a single picture window. It will be in the center of a wall of built-ins when done and below the window will be a box seat.

We don't see the need for a window stool and it will be a little uncomfortable if someone seated sat back against the wall.

I have no experience with picture windows. Are they normally trimmed with or without a stool? If so, I'm curious as to why?

Windows in general can be trimmed 3 ways. 1) Casing mitered at all 4 corners. 2) Casing mitered at top corners, stool and apron on the bottom. 3) no wood trim at all, just corner bead and drywall.

Nothing special about a picture window than any other window. Trim it however you like.

Thanks XSleeper. Option 3 is out - only works for a modern home. What is the real purpose of a stool - anything functional?

The harder the stool is the better equipped it is to resist moisture or other abuse. Usually if the window has drywalled returns they install a marble or tile stool.
