Stair Bearing wall
Hello,
I have a detach garage with a second level where there is a stairway that leads to the second floor. There is a wall along the stair treds that looks to be there to support the stair way. What I would like to do is place a small doorway in this wall that goes under the steps. if i knocked out 2 of the 2x4's that make this wall and put in a double 2x4 on either side of the where the new door would be and a double 2x6 header would this work and still give adequate support for the stairs? I surely do not want these stairs to come falling down because i took these out.
If that doesn't make sense I can try and post a pic here too as soon as i get home.
Thanks.

You would put your 2x6 header between the existing studs, and add trimmer studs under it on each side.
