Adding casters to old chest

I am adding casters to a chest to be used in a storage room. Base of the furniture does not currently accommodate the plate that will need to be screwed into the base. I propose to remove the corner blocks currently part of the base and attach a basic 2x4 rectangular frame with a single diagonal; that should allow me to attach casters at each corner and in the middle of the base. In the end, the casters will be about half-recessed in the base of the chest. Any suggestions for modifications? Photos show the base of the chest, close-ups of the front and rear corners of the base, and the relative size of the caster I intend to use. Thank you.

I would put a piece of plywood on the bottom, keeping the corner blocks.
