Need Help With Kitchen Cabinet Installation - 42" Cabinets with 8' Ceiling
I am in the process of remodeling my kitchen. To optimize storage space, I went with 42" cabinets. The ceiling is only 8'. I wish I would have thought this through more carefully (ie. 36" cabinets with a crown molding), and now I'm concerned about the fit. As part of the design, there is a 96" pantry cabinet. From floor to ceiling, I have approximately 96 3/16", so it looks like this will just nearly be doable. The ceiling does appear to be relatively level, although I have to double check. My laser level is supposed to come tomorrow. Originally, I thought if the ceiling was off, I could lower the upper cabinets by a small amount. I had forgotten about the pantry, so I don't know if this is possible. Could the upper wall cabinets be slightly lower than the pantry (1/16", 1/8", 3/16", etc) without it looking weird? I'm not sure if some type of trim molding could hide this. I had contemplated seeing if I could get the 90" pantry instead, but then I would have a 6" gap to deal with. I apologize in advance for the questions. I am very new at this, and I am trying my best to learn.

Yeah you need to carefully check the ceiling for level and shim the pantry up as high as the lowest point of the ceiling. And set all the wall cabinets to that. Maybe give yourself an 1/8" of wiggle room.

Let's hope the pantry is current sitting in a room with 9 ft ceilings and he can slide it in. Either that or its time to put in a skylight and skylight shaft. LOL
