how do you make a straight but uneven cut on a board?

this feels very basic like I should know it, but frankly I don't! I need a length of 5/4" pine that is 15/16" on one end and 1/2" on the other, so the strip will taper. In other words, the two opposite edges of the board need to be straight, but they are not parallel. Does that make sense? thanks as always

What do you have for tools, specifically a saw or two?

Best way is with a table saw. You tack a guide board onto your piece so that you can just set the fence and rip it.

This is a fancy version of Sleeper's suggestion:

Length of the cut also needs to be considered.

I dont think you can get a taper along a 8' board with that saw fixture so a straight edge and circular saw would be an option!

Did I miss something? 8 feet? Point well-taken, though. The taper jig would be for shorter work.

Is this for decking? If so I have done this by just marking with a chalkline and using a circular saw free hand. If this is for a finishing piece or cabinetry on the inside, then using a clamped fence with either a circular or table saw would be more perfect.
